The power in giving thanks!

The Thanksgiving holiday reminds us to be grateful and thankful for the good we enjoy.

However, gratitude can be more than just an occasional expression of thanks.  It can become a mindset, a philosophy, and a way of being.

We can choose to open our eyes in the morning and give thanks for the comfy bed we slept in or for the loving partner next to us.  We can look at ourselves in the mirror as we brush our teeth, fix our hair or makeup and give thanks for our beauty inside and out.  We can move through our day with a mindset of thankfulness and be grateful at the end of our day for all the good that we witnessed.

A mindset of gratitude is a daily and even moment by moment choice to view life with thankfulness. It isn’t always easy especially when life is difficult, but it can be learned.

I have leaned on the power of gratitude to survive some of the darkest moments of my life.  Giving thanks for what was working in my life at those moments kept me from sinking into depression.  It reminded me that life was not all bad and empowered me to keep moving forward.

Seeing life through the eyes of gratitude allows us to recognize the silver lining in challenges and helps us keep perspective when life is difficult.  It reminds us of all the good we do have.  It keeps our hearts open and our thoughts positive.  It allows us to be receptive and aware of the many miracles of life.
